Missing millions: questions

THE missing millions mystery donation from Airports Company SA (Acsa) to the Black Business Council (BBC), might be resolved before the end of business today.

However, questions will remain as to how the money went missing in the first place as allegations of BBC president Danisa Baloyi being suspended emerged at the weekend.

Last month, City Press reported that a R5 million donation from Acsa to the BBC went missing, landing in the banking account of a company with no links to the BBC. The deal had allegedly been brokered by Baloyi through BBC fund-raiser, Dominic Ntsele.

The Sunday publication yesterday reported that the BBC had since opened a case against Ntsele.

Ntsele previously told the publication that the money had been erroneously transferred as he had been fund-raising for two organisations.

Approached for comment yesterday, Baloyi said the national office-bearers were notified on Friday already “by Mr Dominic Ntsele who has the money, that he is paying the money”.

“I will check and verify, then revert,” she said.

She had not commented on the issue at the time of publication.

BBC secretary-general George Sebulela, when approached for comment, said: “No, but you are being unfair. Why don’t you come to the press briefing tomorrow?

“I can’t discuss these things with you. You can’t call me and expect me to be so unprofessional. It can’t be correct.”

Last week, the BBC appointed audit firm SizweNtalubaGobodo to institute legal actions to recover the funds from Ntsele in seven days, or legal action would be taken.

The BBC was this morning due to host a media briefing in which it was expected to outline outcomes on donation and “recent developments regarding leadership”.
