THERE have always been a lot of sides to LaSauce’s personality. She went from being an introvert to an extrovert after doing a lot of growing up.

Popularly known for her single I Do – which went viral after the two featured stars caused a social media stir – the singer has now dropped her debut album, Broken Lipstick.

“Even though I came from a background that was very closed off – I went to a Muslim school – growing up allowed me to get to know myself better and become an extrovert.

“I deal with so many types of people and having these different types of personalities led me to the name LaSauce. It was perfect.”

The 19-year-old always wanted to get into music. She wanted to be a star.

“Becoming a real star was just about timing, it was a dream come true. From day one I knew it was meant to be,” she said.

The Ncese hitmaker, whose real name is Sindisiwe Magoso, has had a supportive family.

“My family is very diverse and my mom also wanted to be in the industry, but at that time, she wasn’t able to. I feel that as a mother, she was able to pass that on to me. So it’s like a dream come true for her as well, they are so supportive and made me go for it.”

Social media is the one place she could go to to release her music for people to hear. Signing with Ambitiouz Entertainment was a natural progression, she added.

“After I recorded my first single last April, posting it on social media to make sure people hear it – my intention wasn’t to get signed by anybody, it was to have my music played on radio, and after that I had a response within a week.

“And then everything happened so quickly… When it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.”

LaSauce’s voice has been likened to Rihanna. For her the comparison is a compliment. “Growing as an artist, you want people to know you for who you are, but also being compared to someone who is so good and internationally known is amazing.

“It means people are aware of what you are doing, it means people acknowledge your work to that standard.”

She also says about her album: “It’s all about growing up and the things we go through even though we are different. The most basic explanation for Broken Lip- stick is you can be rich or poor – it’s how you live your life and take on the challenges that matter.”
