Cyril must walk his Sona talk

-

I LISTENED attentively to the eloquent and captivating way President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered his State of the Nation Address. It was excellent in content and intent but nothing else.

The ANC is notorious for poor implementation of policy. If Ramaphosa means business, he should walk into that ANC cabinet and sanitise the place of alleged ministers contaminated by the Gupta virus, as well as those who are deadwood.

The minister of finance position should be given to Lesetja Kganyago, or his deputy, AD Mminele. Mcebisi Jonas may be called back to Treasury. Pravin Gordhan could clean up state owned enterprises.

Other cabinet posts to be sanitised include mining, water and sanitation, Sassa, public service, state security, and energy. There is a dire need to reduce the bloated cabinet that is exorbitant in the face of our national debt. Redundant posts should be done away with – like the ministry of women and children, and minister in the Presidency.

Ostentatious vehicles that form part of cabinet perks have to be scrapped.

National Health Insurance will never be effectively or successfully implemented after having decimated training colleges. There is a serious shortage of trained nurses.

The president also spoke of agriculture being a job creator. Colleges in rural areas are needed, where locals can be educated in areas such as animal husbandry, in local languages. We can then guarantee food security for the future.

The manufacturing sector, especially the textile industry, was destroyed by the ANC with the importing of cheap quality Chinese clothing.

We need to manufacture export products from our mining sector and reduce importing. That way, jobs will be created, that way is the only way to fight crime.

Mr President, this is the gauntlet that has been thrown to you by the previous administration. Pick it and run with it. Good luck. LB Angoma Kevin, Sandton
