EN PASSANT

-

AS A white South African who has lived in this country my entire life, I take offence at the comments made by this so-called “educated man”.

Does he not realise how many white people employ people of colour? If all these people decided to fire their workers, unemployment would sky-rocket even more.

I as a pensioner support three black families – who do you support Julius? Judy Lacey Weltevreden Park I FIND it unreasonable for people to accuse Nelson Mandela of being a sell-out. I think as a nation, we have become lazy to the extent that we expect everything to be handed to us without a single effort from us.

At the time Nelson Mandela did what he could, what are we doing? What is the leadership doing? Answering those questions will make us understand and realise who are the real sell-outs.

Attaining political freedom at the time was a real achievement and relevant because of where we were coming from. So we really wanted Nelson Mandela to deliver all our expectations? Meshack Mathe Mtititi Lombard, Limpopo I AM surprised that Facebook has been accused of facilitating people smugglers to lure migrants. Facebook can only help to some extent and its help is a drop in an ocean.

Solutions should be found from home countries where the exodus of people originates.

Trying to blame Facebook will never end mass migration and dangerous journeys. Let’s look at the bigger picture and find permanent solutions. Handsen Chikowore London, UK I AM saddened by the death of the legendary playwright and actor Winston Ntshona. The creative industry is poorer today without Ntshona, who raised our flag high on the global stage.

He left an indelible mark in the industry and will be remembered for his excellent work. His immense contribution to the Struggle, using art to expose the evils and atrocities of the apartheid system, is well documented.

His love for the youth was shown by the way he trained and mentored young actors. Xoliswa Tom Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Arts and Culture
