Let’s empower women
AS WE celebrate Women’s Month in August, it is important that we take women empowerment seriously. There are so many activities in celebrating the role of women during this time, but it is crucial that we move away from talk shows and implement the women empowerment initiatives.
Women are critical for the development of a thriving nation. As we celebrate Women’s Month under the theme “100 years of Albertina Sisulu, Woman of Fortitude: Women united in moving South Africa forward”, let us use the skills of women to address the issues facing our country to ensure sustainable socio-economic development for all in honour of Ma Sisulu, who gallantly fought for the freedom we now enjoy.
Giving women the opportunities and support to achieve, we can have more Albertina Sisulus in the country and that will really push the development of the country 100 times.
Government is trying its best to bring water closer to communities to ensure that even the women in the rural areas have enough time to develop their skills instead of spending most of their time collecting water. This also ensures the safety of our treasured women and protects them from immoral men who target them when they fetch water in remote streams and rivers in rural areas.
Let us all work together for the implementation of the women empowerment policies to ensure that the women have the platform to push the country forward and ensure that mam Sisulu is honoured in a correct manner. Themba Khoza Department of Water and Sanitation Mbombela, Mpumalanga
