Ban louts from varsities

- Sunnyridge, Germiston

I WAS stunned to read that the #FeesMustFall protests on our university and college campuses resulted in R800 million damages over the past three years.

This is excluding the additional cost of extra security, as well as the repeat of classes and examinations.

The damage was due to the vandalism of buildings, auditoriums, hostels, buses, theft of equipment, plus the burning of libraries, hostels, lecture rooms, administration offices, cars, etc.

This year alone has seen 13 universities disrupted. Seven universities had to be closed due to protests. When do these students attend classes?

How can this be allowed to happen with no repercussions from the universities, the government and/or law enforcement?

This is wilful damage to property, arson and premeditated theft – all criminal offences.

Why has nobody been arrested, convicted and sent to prison?

Why are these so-called “students” allowed into universities?

What are their academic records like and, if any, their achievements? Why aren’t the bad apples, rabble rousers, gang leaders and non-performers given their marching orders?

For how long are the taxpayers going to foot the bill racked up by these violent, wasteful incompetents who have no desire to further their education?

This appalling state of affairs cannot and should not be tolerated any longer. John Whitlock
