What’s in this spring/summer season
IT WAS a pamper party of note for those who attended the Nicci Boutique Street-Style Spring/Summer Collection launch.
The party, which takes place seasonally at Nicci Boutique in Hyde Park Corner Shopping Centre, was filled with make-up tutorials, skin-mapping, nail treatments, macaron-eating and lots of shopping.
The trendy event also had several media personalities and fashionistas in attendance. Boutique owner Niki Breger said she couldn’t wait for the trends that were coming in this spring/summer season.
“We are starting off with beautiful pastels and ice-cream colours, and they’re absolutely delicious… from the lemon yellows to the watermelons.
“These are to be worn monochromatic or together. The new way is to mix the colours together and being brave with them.
“There is also what I call Crayola colours, which are much brighter, made to be really bold. Often people will wear three colours in one outfit.”
She added that those who weren’t brave enough to wear full-on bright colours could wear them in scarves and other accessories like make-up and nail colours.
“Denim is always big, so we do it differently with harem denims, which is a signature look and raw-edges denim.
“Also for this season, raw materials are in. From wash cottons and linens to bright colours in natural fabrics. They become a nice washedout bright, which is easier on the eye, and it’s easier to wear vintage floral T-shirts, dresses and scarves.”
Breger’s advice to people who don’t know what to wear this coming season is: “Mix up your looks, your florals with your scarves, give it your own little twist… It’s about having fun and embracing it.”
Her must-have item for the season is a yellow dress. She adds that women and fashion go together, because retail therapy is a way of expressing your personality.
“It’s a way of expressing your individuality. A creative outlet, a pick-me-up, and feelgood connection. If you think you look good, whether you are a career woman or mom, it boosts your morale.”
Also in attendance was Luthando Lootlove Shosha. The ever-fashionable TV presenter said that for her, spring and summer were all about being relaxed.
“I’m looking forward to maxi dresses and looking cute. In terms of colours, pastels are in, and I’m also vibing with florals,” she said.
Stylist Siyamthanda Ndube said that for her, fashion was about being comfortable in your own style.
“Fashion has moved so forward that there is no longer a trend-specific season; now everything goes.
“For this season, you will see more prominent looks. for example red and magenta – together they are a prominent pair. Prints as well. The ideal look is a summer dress. You can never go wrong with that.”
Media personality Tshepi Vundla also emphasised the importance of being true to yourself. “You have to do that in order to style for your body. But also have fun with it and keep your basics, like distressed denims and shoes.”
