43rd Chess Olympiad, Batumi 2018

Round 7

South Africa 1-3 Turkey

IM D Cawdery (2416) 0-1 GM D Solak (2609)

IM W Kobese (2344) 0-1 GM E Can (2588)

FM C Classen (2262) 1-0 GM M Dastan (2569)

IM J Mabusela (2245) 0-1 GM V Sanal (2502)

In an even position Cawdery missed a tactic that cost him the exchange. Kobese had chances to hold in a very complex game before falling into a mating net. Claasen’s GM opponent played the opening somewhat loosely and was quickly crushed by the fast improving player from Cape Town. Mabusela sacrificed the exchange for good play yet after missing some opportunities was eventually ground down.
