USE YOUR VOTE TO END ROT IN COUNTRY

- BARBIE SANDLER Claremont

ONE continually reads that South Africa is the most unequal country in the world. I feel there are many other countries in the world that are just as unequal but what is the solution?

Sadly, when one reads daily in the media of the gross corruption in every little hamlet, municipality, form of government, in everyday life we understand why the people are disillusioned.

We are talking billions of rand lining the pockets of the few instead of being used to uplift the poor to make this a less unequal society.

There will always be rich and poor. That has been going on since time immemorial. But certainly in a well-run country money is put aside for poorer communities.

Helen Suzman always said people want a roof over their heads that they can call their own, enough food in their stomachs so they are not continually hungry, and a good education for their kids.

Sounds like utopia? But if we think of the total mismanagement of finances by this government and very few people being fired for corruption and stealing we realise nothing is changing. But the sad part of this sorry saga is that people will continually vote in this government that has done little to stop this rampant corruption.

We need to have a total change and turn our country around to become a more equal society.

So over to the general public. Don’t go on the rampage burning and looting, which means even less money in the coffers to make your lives better.

Use your vote to give someone else a chance. You’ll never know until you try…
