Develop a lodge in PE weekend retreat area
BIDDERS Choice will auction five stands bordering Maitland Nature Reserve, near Maitland River Mouth and about 30km from Port Elizabeth, at 11am on November 29. The auction will be held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Summerstrand.
The properties on offer are on 235ha of potential development land with spectacular sea views and a private beach at what locals call “Maitlands”.
The stands are earmarked for lodge development: a main lodge with four free-standing units, all with views of fynbos coastal forest, the Maitlands sand dunes and a beach that stretches to Jeffrey’s Bay. Wildlife includes bushbuck, duiker and a proliferation of bird species.
The units will be sold as complete development packages, including architectural drawings, site plans and development costs, development approval from the Eastern Cape Department of Environmental Affairs, as well as a list of suggested building contractors.
Pieter Geldenhuys, chief executive of Bidders Choice, says the stands – to be auctioned as one lot and separately – offer property developers a chance to develop a luxury holiday destination in a pristine coastal area without competition.
“Maitlands has for decades been a popular weekend camping outing or Sunday trip for Port Elizabeth residents. We expect strong interest from the hospitality industry for this chance to offer upmarket overnight accommodation in this popular area.”
Maitlands sand dunes are synonymous with sand boarding and hang gliding. Fishing fans are attracted to the beach’s rock formations. There are also opportunities for surfing, swimming, lagoon pedal-boating and walking along the beach. The Maitland Mines Nature Reserve offers hiking trails through 127ha of indigenous coastal forest and bush that includes yellowwood and milkwood.
