“WINNING the Emmy Award would be a life-changing moment and I believe it is possible.”

These are the words of South African actress Thuso Mbedu who has bagged her second International Emmy Award nomination.

The young actress was nominated for her role in the second season of local drama series

Speaking to The Star at her sendoff party at Montecasino, Mbedu said being nominated said a lot about her work.

“It means a lot. I am actually excited. It is amazing. I will be leaving on Wednesday for US.

“Everything is coming together beautifully. I worked hard on the Winnie character.

“I allowed myself to play and have fun with the character. It is completely different from me. I allowed myself to find her voice.

“Being nominated shows that I put an effort to bringing the character to life,” she said.

The 27-year-old, who has been nominated in the Best Actress category and will go up against other actresses from Brazil, Germany and the UK, said she was looking forward to having a great time in New York.

“It is going to be a great night. Everyone that side is warm. I have found my second home. I had a great time last year and I believe I will have a great time again this year,” Mbedu said.

Mbedu’s close friends and colleagues from the industry attended the party. One of them was actor Siyabonga Hadebe.

Hadebe said the nomination of the Safta-winning actress showed that the country has talent.

“It is great. It shows that South Africa has wonderful actresses. I have worked with her and I know how amazing she is. She is someone who gives it all when performing. This nomination is great for the country,” he said.

As a nominee, Mbedu is the third South African to ever be nominated and the only African nominated across the board at the 46th International Emmy Awards.

The awards ceremony will be held next Monday at the Hilton Hotel in New York. |
