OPEL CORSA GSI LANDS IN SA SOON

- MOTORING STAFF

OPEL HAS announced that it will launch several new models in 2019 and apply a number of specification updates to its existing range of vehicles.

For the petrolheads, the launch of the much anticipated threedoor Opel Corsa GSi has been confirmed. It will be joining the Opel line-up in April 2019. The Corsa GSi is powered by a 1.4T (good for 110kW) petrol engine and boasts an OPC-honed chassis and brake system set up on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The interior also doesn’t disappoint with Recaro seats and an OPC-inspired steering wheel.

Opel also celebrates its 120th birthday in 2019 and South Africans will be offered a Corsa 120Y Special Edition in March 2019. Based on the Corsa Enjoy, this special edition will feature extra styling and specification features including a New Tech Pack III with Front/Rear Park-Assist and Rear-View Camera, Window Side Lower Beltline with Chrome Moulding, ‘OPEL’ Door Sill Plate, ‘Allure’ Jet Black Cloth Trim and Velour Floor Mats (Black with ‘120 Years’ Stitching).

If you need a slightly larger car, the Opel Astra range will see the addition of an automatic 1.6T Sport model in March 2019. The new Sport model boasts an Exterior OPC-Line Sport Pack and an Interior OPC-Line Pack which includes Alloy Sport Pedals, a Sport Mode switch and a Sporty Leather Steering Wheel.

In April 2019, SUV lovers can look forward to the introduction of the Opel Crossland X Enjoy 1.6 Diesel derivative. This version will feature a frugal, yet powerful 1.6 turbodiesel engine with 68kW on tap and five-speed manual gearbox.

The Opel Grandland X Enjoy 1.6T Automatic also receives comprehensive specification updates in March 2019. Updates such as 17” Alloy Wheels replaced by 18” Alloy Wheels, Front Fog Lamps, Rear Privacy Glass and Roof Rails now come as standard. You will also be able to choose the Opel Grandland X Enjoy Plus 1.6T Automatic package which adds a Panoramic Sunroof, Opel’s SatNav 900 IntelliLink Infotainment System and Leather Seats with Winter Pack.

The biggest news, however, from Germany (or is that France?) is the introduction of Opel Commercial in SA.

The Opel Combo 1.6TD Panel Van will reach South African shores in May 2019 and the Opel Vivaro also joins the Opel Commercial line-up in November 2019.

For those who have been wondering whether Opel will stay since splitting with GM, you can now see that the brand is not only staying, but looking to grow.
