Reward for savvy teachers
SOUTH African teachers have been urged to enter a prominent annual competition that rewards educators making the most of information and communications technology to improve performance of students.
The competition is held under the aegis of the SuperTeacher of the Year, funded by the Internet Service Providers Association.
Digital Education Institute, the nonprofit organisation, urged teachers to participate.
“The ISPA SuperTeacher of the Year Awards are well-respected in education circles, both for their longevity and for the huge role they have played in encouraging teachers to pioneer ICT,” said Milford Malunga, the project manager.
ICT stands for information and communications technology. Registration for the competition will close on May 3.
For the first time, this year the competition requires educators to create innovative curriculum plans. This is to showcase their prowess in using technology to enhance classroom teaching and learning.
Held since 2001, the teacher of the year awards have emerged as a muchanticipated fixture of the iWeek Internet industry conference and exhibition.
The iWeek will take place in Joburg and be held in September.
ISPA’s project has skilled over 5 000 teachers.
