Flying the flag for the fairest Cape of all Cape Town International Airport
CAPE TOWN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT services more than 10-million passengers a year travelling to and from one of Africa’s most appealing tourist destinations. The airport has established its reputation as a premier international and award-winning airport, consistently performing among the best in the world for service in its category.
Named Africa’s Leading Airport for 2018, this is the second consecutive year that it has bagged the top spot in the World Travel Awards for the Africa and Indian Ocean region.
The airport has seen 10 new routes and 11 route expansions since 2015. This has supported sustained growth in passenger numbers with a 5.3% increase year-on-year in 2017. Growth in international passenger numbers has been in double digits in recent years.
A study commissioned by Airports Company South Africa determined that Cape Town International Airport contributes R2-billion a year, to the province’s GDP, creating 2 669 direct and indirect jobs.
The growing international demand has seen Cape Town connect directly to more and more destinations in Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
The airport’s runway realignment project will increase the runway capacity from 30 to 45 flights an hour. Setting the stage for another 25 years of success, expansion projects are underway to address capacity constraints, improve retail offerings and increase tenant storage facilities.
