The Star Late Edition

Loved by some, hated by others

-

MAN IS made up of three main parts, namely the body, mind and spirit. A person is able to destroy the body and mind of another but cannot destroy another’s spirit. The spirit is man at his/her true self.

The late statesman, former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, was a nationalist, revolutionist and a leader who had the courage of his convictions.

In the process, he trod on many toes. He led an esoteric lifestyle, loved by some, hated by others.

For me, he falls under the category as the late Chris Hani, Mam’ Winnie Mandela and Tata Nelson Mandela. The regrettable part of his earthly sojourn was putting Zimbabwe in a quagmire.

One day when I pass on, the one question I will ask the Creator of Life is, why He made a black man and a white man? This creation has caused untold racial hatred and conflicts between the two nations.

Mugabe fought for the liberation of his people from the oppression of whites led by Ian Smith. To counter his endeavours he was subjected to severe physical and mental torture but he remained unrelenting, like Mandela, Mam’ Winnie and Hani.

Yes, whites owe us a profound apology for the pain (body and mind) they inflicted on us black people in our place of origin, Africa, just for being different in hue.

Fortunately, it went so well with Mandela until the last lap of his race but it went horribly wrong with Mam’ Winnie and Mugabe. Who can blame the two after being thrown inhumanely into a furnace for so long? Most of us blacks are suffering from the same after effects.

The environment (comrades-inarms who surround us) which we operate, is key to our final success or ultimate failure.

Mugabe was the son of the soil, may his spirit rest in eternal peace.
