IN 1988 author Albert Goldman said “it does not pay to meet your idols”.

He said they had nothing to communicate, but their weaknesses.

And in 2021, Lethabo Lebotsa, popularly known as Focalistic, is living the total opposite, proving Goldman’s theory wrong.

The young sensation from Ga-Rankuwa took to social media to rave about working with icon and personal idol DJ Maphorisa.

“Pitori Maradona” as Focalist refers to himself, showed love to DJ Maphorisa and tweeted: “So happy to be in my hood, Ga-Rankuwa, with my idol DJ Maphorisa right now…”

DJ Maphorisa also took to Twitter and showed respect for the rapper.

Focalistic took to social media and hinted that he was working on a project with DJ Maphorisa.

He is not only a force locally, but has also been making waves across the shores. He graced a Spotify billboard in New York’s Time Square and has travelled across the continent performing in countries such as Nigeria. His song Ke Star Remix has hit 2 million views in a month on YouTube.

Focalistic features Davido and

Virgo Deep on the epic track.

His flavour was so hot that even legendary US musix mogul P Diddy posted a video on his Instagram dancing to Ke Star which further cemented his reign.

Taking a different route from what he studied at the University of Pretoria, Focalistic has no “politics'” but is earning himself space in the government of entertainment.

“My career blowing up during the Covid-19 pandemic is a big blessing that I can never take for granted,” he said.

He credits some of his success to the lockdown, saying that he was inspired to work harder because people were gloomy and needed to be the world’s positivity.
