IT WILL TAKE CITY 100 YEARS TO BUILD HOUSES - EFF

-

THE EFF says the ANC continues to disregard basic human rights such as electricity, water and sanitation.

The EFF caucus leader in Joburg, Silumko Mabona, said people in Alexandra were still being subjected to the most inhumane living conditions.

People in the Zandspruit informal settlement also remain without electricity, as are the residents of Itsoseng.

“This city (council), under the coalition led by the degenerating ANC, continues to fail the people and has no concrete plan on how to depopulate the areas such as Alexandra, and provide quality services to its residents.

“Every time it rains heavily, our people in Protea in Soweto suffer because their homes continue to be flooded with water because there is no functional storm water drainage system.

“However, they are required to pay for the municipal services,” Mabona said.

People in Waterworks, Lenasia, are still without water, electricity as are residents of Mountain City in ward 6.

“This is the reality of our people in over 250 squatter camps all over Joburg, which continue to live without the basic of services which are basic fundamental human rights.

“This is because the city is led by a corrupt ANC with its leaders more concerned only about themselves and their families, than the residents while they continue to loot the city coffers with impunity,” Mabona said.

The housing backlog is getting longer and longer with over 450 000 people on the housing waiting list, he added.

The city council managed to build fewer than 3 000 units in the past year, and at this rate it will take the city more than 100 years to address the backlog alone, Mabona said.
