Telkom partners with influencers to connect
LAST year, Telkom launched the influencer programme with a strategy to partner with African Language Stations (ALS) radio station influencers in order to make its communications inclusive within all South African communities.
The company will continue with five of the original influencers from last year including Zizo Tshwete, Seipati Twasa Seoke, Dudu Khoza, Selby Mkhize and Brian Rikhotso.
On Wednesday, it announced new influencer partners including Tumi Morake, Khutso Theledi, LeighAnne Williams and Martelize Brink.
“Telkom has connected communities and people since its inception; it is our goal to ensure that communication is always clear, simple and inclusive. We have an array of products and services that truly enable a good quality of life for our consumers and we want to ensure that there are no barriers in them having knowledge about and access to them. Based on the success of the partnerships we had last year, with personalities from the various ALS radio stations, we are thrilled to expand our relationships to include the Afrikaans speaking community,” said Gugu Mthembu, chief marketing officer.
The ALS radio stations are spread across Zulu, isiXhosa, Xitsonga radio, Sesotho and Setswana as well as Afrikaans and the youth-focused radio station YFM.
Comedian and actress Morake said she was thrilled to be part of the journey. “Usually brands will call on you to help them sell something, but this has felt like an invitation with a clear mission to accomplish something that is aligned to my beliefs; that people should always be connected. I do it through laughter and Telkom does it through accessible technology. It’s the perfect marriage in my eyes.”
Telkom recently introduced consumer offerings, including its video-streaming platform, TelkomONE and the Telkom Digital Wallet operated via WhatsApp.
“We are always working and innovating as a business, with technology at the core of our services and products, always with the goal to connect people as seamlessly as possible and in the most affordable way,” said Mthembu.
