Stino le Thwenny taking rap to the top

- MPILETSO MOTUMI

HIP HOP duo Stino le Thwenny have always been inspired by music.

“From the music we heard on the radio daily to the music videos of child stars making music, we would always see them living their dreams and it was inspiring us to chase that beautiful life as well.”

The Bloemfontein pair have three songs that are currently on rotation, the fan favourite Mshimane 2.0, Buyile and a new song Tsele.

“The music video for Tsele is such a masterpiece and what we want people to take away from it is to allow their thoughts to think differently. It is about unmasking who you really are.”

They feature multiaward-winning artist Kwesta on the song.

“Working with Kwetsa was such an honour and what we learnt from him is that when you believe in something you do it now and finish it.”

Their favourite thing about hip hop is the ability to express themselves. “As hip hop artists, you are able to express where you are from and what you feel and how you feel about something happening around you.

“Our music is inspired from everyday learning to the kind of people we meet, to the kind of environment we’re in. It is also inspired by the parties we used to go to before the pandemic, the everyday life struggle and beautiful girls,” they said.

The duo has worked with artists like Major League DJs and Lady Du and intend on working with more artists.

“Our plan is to go global with our music. We really want to be international with it. So working with the likes of Burna Boy and Davido, and maybe take it to the US and get Lil Wayne and more big artists.”

The rappers have an EP project coming up.

“We hope to squeeze in an album this year as well if things go as planned.”
