Politics denying Meyiwa’s family justice

- TEBOGO BROWN |

WHAT struck me most about the arrest of advocate Malesela Teffo was his statement “they arrest me because I am in this case. Bheki Cele doesn’t want me in this case”.

Why doesn’t Cele want Teffo on the case? Who is he trying to protect? Obviously a murderer, but who? In 2019, I wrote in one of the national newspapers that Police Minister Cele and National Prosecuting Authority head Shamila Batohi were refusing to arrest Longwe Twala for the alleged cold-blooded murder of Senzo Meyiwa.

The Sunday Independent published a mind-blowing story on the cover-up in which Kelly Khumalo and her mom were implicated. To my understanding, there were only three public figures in the house – a musician, the soccer star who was murdered, and a son of a well-known music producer and anti-apartheid activist. Which of the two could Cele be trying to protect? The musician or the son of a music producer and anti-apartheid activist?

It is impossible to murder the second-best goalkeeper in the country and get away with it. The powers that be have messed up the case beyond repair. They started by making Sergeant Joyce Buthelezi resign after she suggested that all those who were present when Senzo was shot should be arrested.

To my knowledge, Colonel Bongani Gininda is walking “scot-free” though he defeated the ends of justice by withholding a crucial statement he received in 2017 on who murdered Meyiwa and why. His crime was rewarded with a transfer to KwaZulu-Natal. Senior cop Shadrack Sibiya was also implicated in bungling the case.

This case could have been solved long ago if politics weren’t involved. Cases that involve drugs, sex and politics are hardly ever resolved.
