THE frustration over continued power outages forced a group of residents from Buccleuch in Sandton to march to Eskom head offices in Megawatt Park to drop off their spoilt food.

Residents marched with placards on Friday saying they had not had electricity from last Sunday.

As part of their protest, some dumped rotten food at the entrance to the offices and, according to the Sandton Chronicle, they had had enough of outages. “We have had enough with outages, fights, and the plight of Buccleuch residents,” they said.

In a video on social media, one of the residents is seen dumping rotting meat next to the entrance of Megawatt Park, while others chant as they wait for answers from officials.

The residents demanded to be addressed by Eskom officials and hopefully have their power restored.

Buccleuch residents also recently expressed that the delivery of services to the area has been poor, mentioning road maintenance among the pressing issues.

Concern over protests is growing as citizens all throughout the country continue to voice their frustrations with the government.

The predominant issues are lack of service delivery, continued blackouts, and a lack of water supply.

As a result of load shedding, communities have no water, because the pumps that supply water are unable to function without electricity.

Two weeks ago, The Star reported on hostile protests in Mpumalanga, with scores of residents demanding electricity.

The protests led to a physical assault on Emalahleni mayor Conny Nkalitshani, who was accused of being ignorant by disgruntled protesters.

She was seen in a video on social media being stoned by angry protesters, as a few people assisted her to flee.

As protests continue, Eskom has revealed the high possibility of increased stages of load shedding during winter, due to the constrained power system.
