Poland was still trending on Twitter after President Cyril Ramaphosa’s security and journalists’ plane were held in Poland. This is how Twitter reacted:

@Semyaza666

South Africa arrived with 120 bodyguards armed to the teeth, without proper documents, to protect a few diplomats and the president. Nah...not gonna happen. UA and Poland can and did give them protection so no need for those 120 men.

@NajdenovPlamen

South Africa’s peace plan for Ukraine is the same as China’s. It wants to see Russia keep the territories that it has occupied. But it’s not fair and it will not result in peace. Russia must leave all of Ukraine including Crimea. Ukraine must become a member of Nato.

@Manishmenna

Poland is an extreme right-wing, racist country – just the same as Nazi Ukraine. Poland should be kicked out of the UN and EU and treated as the pariah state it is.

@od_otenga

Honestly though, what did South Africa expect from Poland or the clown and his handlers? The West was yearning for an opportunity to humiliate SA, and they gave themselves up on a platter. This mission was always going to fail and end up as it has.

@totitoteee1

Seriously looking at it from all angles, that plane’s mission was not clear and the Polish have proven that SA needs better planning if it’s going to carry weapons that far. CR had travelled without this backup and will be back safe and sound.

@lame_qwack

Unbelievable. What puzzles me is that President Ramaphosa accepted the situation. He should have told Parliament he was cancelling the trip should his security team not be cleared of customs formalities. The diplomatic feud would have been devastating for West propaganda.

@Rebel_PR

Well, maybe not arrive in someone else’s county with 120 mercenaries armed to the teeth with little documentation and expect access? I recall SA taking a rather dim view of that sort of thing on their own turf.

@Meronym6

Don’t forget that these 120 bodyguards were unregistered, unexpected, and armed to the teeth. For a peace delegation? I would have stopped them, too.

@Hartmut6311

Obviously, no diplomatic peace mission travels with 120 undeclared and heavily armed men to the host country... together with containers of more arms. Obviously, the Polish government did the right thing to detain them – and in an act of friendship let them go back home!

@shimelesshumiRa

Unless the African government and AU stand together and respond strongly to any bullying actions, such arrogance will continue! We should condemn #POLAND equivocally! Even better to cease diplomacy with such a government.
