The dragons are back

The eight-episode second season of HBO’s drama series House of the Dragon debuts in the U.S. on June 16, and will be available on M-Net (DStv channel 101) express from the U.S. at 3 am on June 17, before making its prime-time premiere at 9 pm on the same day.

The series will also be available to stream on Showmax. The story picks up following the tragic death of Queen Rhaenyra’s son, Lucerys, after he and his dragon, Arrax, are attacked by Aemond, son of Queen Alicent Hightower, and his dragon, Vhagar, after both turned up at Storm’s End to get the support of Lord Borros Baratheon, for their respective houses’ claim to the throne of Westeros.

The kindgom is on the brink of a civil war with the Green (Hightower) and Black (Targaryen) councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respective­ly.

As each side believes theirs to be the rightful seat on the Iron Throne, the Greens and the Blacks leave those in the kingdom and audiences

House at home with the need to choose who they want to rule.

House of the Dragon, which is based on George RR Martin’s Fire& Blood ,isaprequel­tothe Game of Thrones series.

It is set 200 years before the events in Game of Thrones and reveals what happened to the once massively powerful House Targaryen and their dragons.

Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans are all back for season two. There are also a host of new faces including: Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.
