Other local schools that entered the competition include St Charles College and Hilton College.

The radio station launched the competition a few weeks back to find

South Africa’s top school “war cry” as schools and pupils have taken their passion to new heights. The competition aims to “unleash your school’s ‘gwijo’ power and let your voices be heard!”

Top “war cries”, including one by Maritzburg College, have even gone viral on social media, attracting huge audiences on different social media platforms.

Director of marketing and communications at Maritzburg College Sally Upfold said they've received overwhelming support from people “liking” and “sharing” their video shared by the radio station. She said the entire College community, including boys, parents, staff and old boys, have rallied in support of College in the competition.

Upfold said Maritzburg College’s war cries were an integral and proud part of the school’s 161-year history and the way their boys celebrate and build their special #RedBlackWhite spirit!

“Led by our shouting captains, our boys will do their war cries ahead of and during big sporting matches and, of course, on Basher Ridge next to our home ground Goldstones.

“We were thrilled to make the final four with our war cry video that was unedited and recorded by the boys for the boys!

It would mean a huge amount to everyone to win — especially as our boys are currently competing in festivals around the country, and ahead of our winter sports season,” said Upfold.
