BOWLS NOTES

HILTON

Last Wednesday we held the Build It trips competition. We were delighted to welcome another sponsor, The Irish Pub — a pub with a wonderful ambience in the heart of Hilton village.

In first place were Barry, Hans and Monica, who won vouchers from Build It. Harvey, Mike Dick and Izzy were the recipients of the first vouchers donated by the Irish pub, for the runners up. Winners of the losers were Swys, Jayne and Reika, who won bottles of wine from Bird & Co. Build It were also sponsors of a very generous lucky draw voucher, so there is a chance for every bowler at our competitions. On Saturday the major sponsor of our club, Hilton Quarry Spar, supplied chickens for the “chicken run”. Chicken will be on the menu this week for the winners — Jean Pluke, Willy and Heather as well as Jean Henderson, who won the lucky draw!

There are no competitions for the coming week but join us for a fun afternoon of bowls on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Whites, or club colours are to be worn only on Saturdays.

LYNWOOD

Well done to the NIBA U25 team who participated in the recent U25 inter-district tournament that took place, together with the U15 and U18 tournaments, in Bloemfontein last week. The team got off to a very good start, but unfortunately lost a couple of games by a few shots, which obviously affects the overall results. Despite the actual results, the team played lots of great bowls and showed much determination and lots of good team spirit. This young side will benefit greatly from the experience gained and Natal Inland will reap the rewards in the years to come. Thursday: Start time – 1.30 pm

As usual time is flying past, and you can already feel the nip of winter in the air in the mornings and evenings. It certainly makes for more pleasant playing conditions compared to the heat of the summer days.

Unfortunately, there was no wintery feeling in the air at all last week Tuesday when we hosted our J Leslie Smith & Company 2-4-2 competition. Despite the heat, all 22 teams had a great morning of bowls and camaraderie and a wonderful morning was had by all. Congratulations to Stephanie Crause & Rusty Ikin, who won first prize, followed by Alan & Sharon Willey in second place; and also to Ann Monarch & Rowena Muir, who won the plate prize. A big thank you to J Leslie Smith & Company Inc for their ongoing support and while we’re about it, we’d like to mention that they will be sponsoring a full day event at UWBC on April 21. This is set to be a great day of three bowl trips with some great prizes up for grabs. Keep an eye out for more information or contact Lisa Nagel at 084 586 6984 to enter a team.

Wednesday, April 10: Halfway Toyota Drawn Trips 4-3-2-1. Tabs In 1.15 pm.
