Allspace adds third row
VOLKSWAGEN last week introduced the seven-seat Tiguan Allspace, which is only 21,5 cm longer than the normal Tiguan, but boasting a third row in the back.
Like the two-row Tiguan, the Tiguan Allspace will be sold in three equipment lines (Trendline, Comfortline and Highline), and in front and all-wheel drive variants.
Three petrol (TSI) engines and one diesel (TDI) engine are on offer, and despite the “dieselgate” scandal, Wheels can heartily recommnend the smaller 1,4 TSI, which is only paired to a sixspeed DSG transmission.
This 1,4 block makes 110kW and 250 Nm from a low 1500 rpm up to 3 500 rpm, giving diesel-like torque as well as diesel-like consumption. VW claims a combined fuel consumption is 6,5 litres per 100 kilometres. This is over 15 kilometres per litre, which is excellent for a family mover.
Only the Trendline comes with front wheel drive.
All other Tiguan Allspace models have 4Motion as standard. The front-wheel drive Trendline can tow braked trailers weighing up to 2 000 kg.
The 4Motion models can tow a 2 500 kg braked trailer.
Motorists who look to use either the Tiguan’s 4Motion or towing abilities will do well to replace the model’s space saver spare wheel with a full size spare.
The new Tiguan Allspace comes standard with a five-year or 90 000km service plan, three-year or 120 000km warranty Service Interval is 15 000 km.
