Trans­port laws work­shop

SA’s road traf­fic and trans­port leg­is­la­tion ex­pert Alta Swanepoel and Lex­isNexis Road Traf­fic in­vite all trans­porters to regis­ter for any of three road traf­fic and trans­port leg­is­la­tion work­shop be­ing held dur­ing May.

The panel will ad­dress the Na­tional Road Traf­fic Act and Reg­u­la­tions, the freight lo­gis­tics strat­egy and the draft amend­ments to the leg­is­la­tion.

The amend­ments to the Ad­min­is­tra­tive Ad­ju­di­ca­tion of Road Traf­fic Of­fences (Aarto) and NLTA Acts will also be dis­cussed, as well as gen­eral road traf­fic and trans­port matters.

The panel in­cludes Ron­ald Stu­ur­man, ex­ec­u­tive man­ager of Reg­u­la­tory Ser­vices, Cross-Bor­der Road Trans­port Agency (CBRTA), who will ex­plain gov­ern­ment’s pol­icy on de­vel­op­ing an in­tel­li­gent risk-based road safety tool for cer­ti­fy­ing and li­cens­ing com­pli­ant com­mer­cial cross-bor­der road trans­port operators.

Stan Bezuiden­hout, foren­sic col­li­sion homi­cide re­con­struc­tion­ist, will dis­cuss the ef­fects of non-com­pli­ance with the road traf­fic leg­is­la­tion and how it im­pacts on in­surance con­tracts and ac dent claims. His rec­om­men­da­tions who help fleet operators min­imise the risk claim re­pu­di­a­tions.

Max Braun, a con­sul­tant in trans­port lo­gis­tics and con­trib­u­tor to Fleet­wat magazine, will give his ob­ser­va­tion from the left lane, with the fo­cus on ma ag­ing the men­ace of speed­ing ve­hi­cle

Keith McMur­ray, an ex­pert on the trans­port of dan­ger­ous goods, will pro­vide an up­date on the lat­est de­vel­op­ments in the trans­porta­tion of dange ous goods and the grey ar­eas in the leg la­tion and spec­i­fi­ca­tions and its impa on the in­dus­try.
