Stinger comes with specs to match its R900 000 price tag

FOL­LOW­ING its an­nounce­ment of a limited num­ber of ex­am­ples en route to South Africa in the se­cond half of 2018, Kia Mo­tors has con­firmed the stan­dard spec­i­fi­ca­tion that can be ex­pected in the Kia Stinger GT, as well as its pric­ing.

“There has been no­table in­ter­est and ex­cite­ment in Stinger since we an­nounced its im­mi­nent ar­rival two weeks ago,” com­ments Gary Scott, CEO, Kia Mo­tors South Africa.

“The con­fi­dence is well placed. Kia has re­tained top po­si­tion in the au­thor­i­ta­tive J.D. Power Ini­tial Qual­ity Study, and Stinger’s con­tin­ued global awards cer­tainly re­in­forces this sen­ti­ment. With its com­pet­i­tive pric­ing, we be­lieve that it will be highly sought-af­ter as well.”

Un­der the hood

The SA-bound Kia Stinger GT is pow­ered by Kia’s 3,3-litre twin-tur­bocharged V6 GDI (for gaso­line di­rect in­jec­tion), which de­vel­ops 272 kW at 6,000 rpm and 510 Nm be­tween 1 300 4 500 rpm. This engine has re­cently been named on the au­thor­i­ta­tive Ward’s ‘10 Best Engines’ list for 2018.

Kia re­ports a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 4,9 sec­onds and a top speed of 270 km/h.

The Stinger rides on high-speed 225/40R-19 wheels in front and 255/35R-19 at the rear. Vented Brembo disc brakes are stan­dard and fea­ture quad-pis­ton front cal­lipers and dual-pis­ton rear cal­lipers.

Dy­namic Stability Damp­ing Con­trol al­lows the driver to ad­just the ride-damp­ing and ve­hi­cle han­dling traits and steer­ing boost.

The sys­tem is ac­cessed through five drive modes: Per­sonal, Eco, Sport, Com­fort and Smart, and pend­ing the selec­tion, it will make the Stinger more ag­ile through cor­ners by soft­en­ing the front shocks and firm­ing up the rear, or more sta­ble at high speeds by do­ing the op­po­site to the elec­tronic sus­pen­sion.

Con­ve­nience and safety fea­tures in­clude Park Dis­tance Con­trol front and rear, an in­te­grated re­verse cam­era linked to an eight-inch colour screen of­fer­ing Around View Mon­i­tor­ing, an Electric Park­ing Brake with Auto Hold Function, as well as Hill­start As­sist Con­trol.

Colours and price

Cus­tomers will have a choice of nine metal­lic ex­te­rior colours, in­clud­ing Hi Chroma Red, Snow White Pearl, Silky Sil­ver, Aurora Black Pearl, Ce­ramic Sil­ver, Sun­set Yel­low, Deep Chroma Blue, Mi­cro Blue and Pan­thera Metal.

Ship­ping as stan­dard with Kia’s in­dus­try-lead­ing Un­lim­ited Kilo­me­tre, five-year war­ranty, as well as five years’ worth of road­side as­sis­tance and a five-year or 90 000km main­te­nance plan, the Kia Stinger GT will re­tail for R859 995.

Or­der di­rect

Due to the limited num­ber of Stingers avail­able to the South African mar­ket in 2018, the ve­hi­cle will not be avail­able through the Kia deal­er­ship net­work.
