FOLLOWING its announcement of a limited number of examples en route to South Africa in the second half of 2018, Kia Motors has confirmed the standard specification that can be expected in the Kia Stinger GT, as well as its pricing.

“There has been notable interest and excitement in Stinger since we announced its imminent arrival two weeks ago,” comments Gary Scott, CEO, Kia Motors South Africa.

“The confidence is well placed. Kia has retained top position in the authoritative J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, and Stinger’s continued global awards certainly reinforces this sentiment. With its competitive pricing, we believe that it will be highly sought-after as well.”

Under the hood

The SA-bound Kia Stinger GT is powered by Kia’s 3,3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 GDI (for gasoline direct injection), which develops 272 kW at 6,000 rpm and 510 Nm between 1 300 4 500 rpm. This engine has recently been named on the authoritative Ward’s ‘10 Best Engines’ list for 2018.

Kia reports a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 4,9 seconds and a top speed of 270 km/h.

The Stinger rides on high-speed 225/40R-19 wheels in front and 255/35R-19 at the rear. Vented Brembo disc brakes are standard and feature quad-piston front callipers and dual-piston rear callipers.

Dynamic Stability Damping Control allows the driver to adjust the ride-damping and vehicle handling traits and steering boost.

The system is accessed through five drive modes: Personal, Eco, Sport, Comfort and Smart, and pending the selection, it will make the Stinger more agile through corners by softening the front shocks and firming up the rear, or more stable at high speeds by doing the opposite to the electronic suspension.

Convenience and safety features include Park Distance Control front and rear, an integrated reverse camera linked to an eight-inch colour screen offering Around View Monitoring, an Electric Parking Brake with Auto Hold Function, as well as Hillstart Assist Control.

Colours and price

Customers will have a choice of nine metallic exterior colours, including Hi Chroma Red, Snow White Pearl, Silky Silver, Aurora Black Pearl, Ceramic Silver, Sunset Yellow, Deep Chroma Blue, Micro Blue and Panthera Metal.

Shipping as standard with Kia’s industry-leading Unlimited Kilometre, five-year warranty, as well as five years’ worth of roadside assistance and a five-year or 90 000km maintenance plan, the Kia Stinger GT will retail for R859 995.

Order direct

Due to the limited number of Stingers available to the South African market in 2018, the vehicle will not be available through the Kia dealership network.

Instead, those who like what they hear about this Beemer beater will have to buy their Stinger using what Kia calls “a bespoke direct sales experience”. In plain English, buyers have to order their Stingers through the dedicated Stinger website, which is www.kiastinger.co.za.

Customers registered on the website will receive full details regarding the ordering process later this month, and will be able to order their vehicles at the same time.

The glint of red Brembo disc brakes show the Kia Stinger means business, but only limited numbers will go on sale in South Africa.
