KNOWN for its raw, powerful, edgy soundandgutsy stanceontoughenvironmental and social issues, Evolver One brings a whole new sound to uShaka’s Upper Deck tomorrow at 8 pm. Fans can look forward to an energetic, electro-pop feel and songs from the landmark 2010 album Evolver One. These include the charting single Are We Listening? as well as Criminal ( their first single, which reachedtheTop40inJune-July2010, and number one on 94.5 Kfm-Highveld’s Homebrew in September 2010) and Move Along.
Both this much-talked-about album and Evolver One’s new sound come hot on the heels of a name change — formerly Evolver, now EvolverOne— andawholenewmusical focus. Band members — frontman Pete Pole, bassist James Cohen, drummer Tulsa Pittaway and keyboard man Sean Murphy — are spreading their philosophy of “ One” with its optimistic take on current eventsandglobal events with the help of new producer and international hit maker, Nathan Winkler ( Hillsong London, Whitney Houston, Westlife, and Natasha and Daniel Bedingfield).
Evolver One is one of South Africa’s premium rock bands, having completed 19 national tours, performed over 500 shows and played at most of South Africa’s major music festivals. The band has shared the stage with many international greats such as 3 Doors Down, Stained, Hooberstank, SnowPatrol and Oasis. Evolver One’sdebutalbum, GetUp( 2006) produced a number of hit singles, including Let’s Get Naked, Get Up, Closer to You and Keep on Moving. The band’s fourth album What’s The Story?, with
chart-topping songs such as Go All The Way, Pretty Thing and Why We Lonely, was released in 2008.
Thirty Three— Rob Warren ( guitars and vocals), Garth Warren ( bass and backing tracks) and Gary Parker ( drums and backing vocals) will start the evening with its distinctive local sound. After winning a local Battle of the Bands, the gigs came rolling in, and it wasn’t long before the trio began recording their debut album Tragically Forgotten. Their latest album, I AmThe Hi-Fi has been well received by both critics and fans, with the first single Walk Out In The Sun shooting to number one on East Coast Radio. The new number-one single LikeYouis set toburnupthe airwaves — listen out for it tomorrow.
