DEC­O­RATED swim­mer Chad le Clos an­nounced the launch of his foun­da­tion this week.

The Chad le Clos Foun­da­tion, which is part­ner­ing with the aQuellé Mid­mar Mile, the world’s big­gest open wa­ter swim­ming event, aims to raise funds to ad­vance the devel­op­ment of swim­ming within South Africa.

Ac­cord­ing to a state­ment yes­ter­day, Le Clos has his sights set on fur­ther Olympic glory in Tokyo 2020 with four Olympic medals in his tro­phy cab­i­net al­ready.

After be­com­ing the most suc­cess­ful Com­mon­wealth Games swim­mer of all time this year, with 17 Games medals to his name, Le Clos is look­ing to build a fu­ture around his global suc­cess which ben­e­fits oth­ers as well as the sport in gen­eral.

Le Clos said: “I am ex­tremely ex­cited to an­nounce the launch of my foun­da­tion with Mid­mar Mile as both have such a ma­jor role to play in our sport.”

The foun­da­tion aims to ad­vance the devel­op­ment, par­tic­i­pa­tion and per­for­mance of all South Africans within the sport of swim­ming.

Ju­lian Tay­lor, CEO of the Foun­da­tion, and him­self former cat­e­gory win­ner at the Mid­mar Mile, paid tribute to Le Clos’ pas­sion for men­tor­ing young chil­dren say­ing “he is a role model” and in­spi­ra­tion.

Le Clos thanked Mid­mar Mile race di­rec­tor Wayne Rid­din.

“Part­ner­ing with the Mid­mar Mile is fan­tas­tic for the foun­da­tion,” said Le Clos.

The Mid­mar Mile will be held on Fe­bru­ary 9 and 10, 2019. En­tries are open.
