THE­ fresh­wa­ter­ scene­ has­ been­ lively.­ Basshave­ been­ en­joy­ing­ the­ sum­mer­ sun­ an­dare­ feed­ing­ a­ lot­ more­ ag­gres­sively,­ while­carp­ are­ in­creas­ing­ in­ num­ber,­ al­thoughs­maller­ in­ size.

All­ the­ dams­ are­ fish­ing­ well­ and­ therivers­ are­ not­ far­ be­hind.­ Go­ out­ and­ en­joythe­ sun.

The­ bass­ are­ wild!­ This­ is­ a­ state­ment­that­ has­ res­onated­ in­ the­ shop­ over­ the­last­ few­ weeks.

The­ wa­ter­melon­ red­ King­fisher­ Re­ac­tion­soft­ plas­tics­ have­ been­ work­ing­ very­ wellin­ all­ of­ the­ KZN­ dams.­ Mid­mar­ has­ been­pro­duc­ing­ some­ very­ good­ fish.

Weight­less­ flukes­ and­ stick­ baits­ have­pro­duced­ the­ ma­jor­ity­ of­ the­ big­ger­ fish.Wa­ter­melon­ red­ and­ green­ pump­kin­ have­been­ the­ stand­out­ colours.

Al­bert­ Falls­ and­ Inanda­ have­ been­ mu­chof­ a­ much­ness­ when­ it­ comes­ to­ fish.They­ are­ both­ fish­ing­ very­ well­ and­ few­peo­ple­ are­ leav­ing­ with­out­ a­ story­ of­ a­ gi­ant­ or­ a­ smile.

Soft­ plas­tics­ have­ been­ fish­ing­ very­ well.This­ is­ prob­a­bly­ due­ to­ the­ slower­ pacethat­ peo­ple­ are­ fish­ing­ these­ and­ the­more­ re­al­is­tic­ na­ture­ of­ these­ baits.

The­ trout­ fish­ing­ is­ start­ing­ to­ wane.The­ sum­mer­ in­sect­ hatches­ are­ mak­ingthe­ early­ evenings­ a­ dry­ fly­ fish­er­man’sdream.­ Watch­ing­ trout­ sip­ in­sects­ off­ thesur­face­ while­ the­ sun­ is­ set­ting­ in­ the­ dis­tance­brings­ a­ smile­ to­ some­ and­ goose­bump­sto­ oth­ers.

Keep­ a­ good­ se­lec­tion­ of­ dry­ flies­ atthe­ ready­ for­ such­ an­ oc­ca­sion.

You­ don’t­ need­ ev­ery­ con­ceiv­able­ pat­tern­but­ just­ a­ va­ri­ety­ of­ colours­ and­ sizesin­ known­ pat­terns.­ Spin­ner-type­ dries­ an­delk-hair­ cad­dis­ im­i­ta­tions­ are­ my­ go-toflies.­ If­ you­ want­ to­ have­ a­ good­ show,­ tieon­ a­ frog­ fly­ and­ strip­ it­ along­ the­ weed­mar­gins­ ...­ hold­ on­ for­ some­ amaz­ing­ ac­tion.

Sub-sur­face­ fish­ing­ has­ slowed­ a­ bit,­ but­ the­ takes­ have­ been­ sav­age.­ The­ scalieshave­ been­ feed­ing­ well­ and­ most­ ofthe­ usual­ spots­ have­ been­ hold­ing­ fish.

Black­ nymphs­ and­ cad­dis­ im­i­ta­tion­shave­ been­ pro­duc­ing­ good­ re­sults.

The­ carp­ fish­ing­ is­ heat­ing­ up.­ Thenum­bers­ have­ been­ much­ larger­ than­ over­the­ pre­vi­ous­ weeks,­ al­beit­ the­ size­ drop­ping.The­ Spi­derman­ dip­ has­ been­ pro­duc­ing­some­ fan­tas­tic­ re­sults­ over­ the­ last­few­ weeks,­ so­ well­ in­ fact­ all­ the­ store­sare­ sold­ out­ of­ stock.

The­ King­fisher­ will­ be­ re­ceiv­ing­ new­stock­ shortly.­ If­ you­ are­ plan­ning­ a­ trip­ tothe­ KZN­ dams,­ take­ some­ aniseed,­ ba­nanaand­ gar­lic­ with­ you.­ These­ are­ the­ bigth­ree­ when­ it­ comes­ to­ carp­ing­ in­ KZN(and­ most­ of­ SA).­ If­ the­ carp­ are­ not­feed­ing­ on­ one­ or­ a­ mix­ture­ of­ the­ three,sit­ back,­ re­lax­ and­ en­joy­ the­ scenery.

The­ spec­i­men­ guys­ have­ been­ land­ing­some­ beau­ti­ful­ fish­ out­ of­ Inanda.

The­ rock­ and­ surf­ side­ of­ things­ has­ been­ in­ the­ full­ sum­mer­ swing.­ There­ has­been­ some­ amaz­ing­ sum­mer­ ac­tion­ fromS­plash­ Rocks­ all­ the­ way­ to­ Kosi­ Bay.

The­ sharks­ and­ skates­ have­ been­ bend­ingthe­ rods­ and­ test­ing­ the­ drags­ of­many­ guys­ along­ the­ coast.­ The­ north­ has­con­tin­ued­ to­ be­ on­ form.­ There­ have­ been­plenty­ of­ tro­phy­ fish­ caught­ in­ this­ re­gionover­ the­ past­ few­ weeks.

There­ have­ been­ sandies­ over­ the­ magic100­ kg­ and­ many­ more­ close­ to­ it.­ Th­e­seare­ once-in-a-life­time­ fish,­ so­ if­ you­ areever­ lucky­ enough­ to­ catch­ one­ of­ the­se­beau­ties,­ make­ sure­ to­ take­ care­ of­ it­ and­snap­ some­ quick­ pics­ be­fore­ let­ting­ him/ her­ go­ safely.

Mack­erel­ baits­ have­ main­tained­ theirdom­i­nance­ as­ the­ best­ bait­ for­ these­ fish.If­ you­ are­ un­sure­ of­ what­ to­ throw­ in­ tothe­ sea,­ a­ mack­erel­ head­ with­ some­ cut­letswrapped­ on­ the­ out­side­ will­ not­ bere­fused­ by­ a­ hun­gry­ ined­i­ble.
