BAIL FOR EASTWOOD MURDER ACCUSED
A 30-YEAR-OLD man charged with murder in Eastwood on New Year’s Day has been granted bail of R2 000.
Kuit Henry (30) is alleged to have shot Murdock Thomas (25) three times — twice in the chest and once in the arm. Thomas died at the scene.
State prosecutor Patty David told Pietermaritzburg magistrate Nico Kinnears that there was no objection to bail being granted because Henry has a fixed address and is permanently employed. After the incident, he contacted police and did not flee the scene.
His attorney, Farheim Ebrahim, said Henry acted in self-defence. He has no pending cases or previous convictions.
Kinnears ordered Henry not to enter Eastwood while on bail. He stressed that Henry should only come to the city for this case and no other reason.
Kinnears added that he should reside in Mooi River where he is working.
The matter was adjourned to February 27.
