The 2018 Dakar Rally was probably the most gruelling one ever, said

Toyota President Akio Toyoda when congratulating SA’S teams on their powerful performances.

Toyota Gazoo finished in second and third place overall, driving the brandnew Hilux. They tackled extremely challenging conditions including various road surfaces, high altitude and chilly temperatures during the 9 000km race through Bolivia’s desolate salt flats.

Team Land Cruiser Toyota Auto Body won the Production Division category, while Hino Team Sugawara won the Truck category in a Hino Ranger.

“Watching footage of the rally, I couldn’t help feeling the tough nature of the road and how unforgiving nature is and wondering whether vehicles can really function in such environments. With numerous vehicles forced to retire during the rally, I appreciate the performance of the Toyota vehicles that completed the event,” said Toyoda.
