“I sup­ported the worst-hit sup­plier, where dam­age to the plant was so ex­ten­sive that re­cov­ery was es­ti­mated to take sev­eral weeks. I was based there full­time, sup­ported their man­age­ment and up­dated TSAM on a reg­u­lar ba­sis.

Against much spec­u­la­tion, their plant was op­er­a­tional within seven days. “Our progress wouldn’t have been as re­mark­able had it not been for the tremen­dous sup­port and as­sis­tance of man­age­ment and en­gi­neers from our de­part­ment, as well as var­i­ous other TSAM di­vi­sions.

“Ini­tially, I had mixed feel­ings about re­ceiv­ing the award, mainly due to the tragic cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing the dis­as­ter. How­ever, once I at­tended the cer­e­mony, I was proud to re­ceive the award on be­half of TSAM and

SA. Meet­ing the Pres­i­dent of Toy­ota per­son­ally was a great hon­our and a fan­tas­tic milestone in my life.”
