In its third year of collaboration, the POPART Theatre and the Market Theatre Laboratory will be staging contemporary adaptations of classic Greek theatre. Students will revise and refresh two productions for local audiences under the guidance of professional directors.
Lysistrata, 6-9 April: A comedy by Aristophanes, it explores genderbased issues as the women of the city stage a sex strike to stop a raging war between the men. Directed by Mahlatsi Mokgoyana.
The Love of the Nightingale, 13-16 April: Nondumiso Lwazi Msimanga directs this adaptation of the myth of the rape of Philomele in collaboration with a six-strong cast of Market Lab ingenues.
