Mzo Witbooi shares his outlook
I don’t know about you, but for me, mid-year is a cause for pause. I tend to take a minute to stop what I’m doing and marvel at how time’s flown past, reflect on how far I’ve come in achieving what I’ve set out to do in the year – and worry about what’s left to do. June and July are also months which remind me that, as a human being living on planet earth, I’m part of a much larger picture. In SA, June is National Environment Month. We also commemorate World Environment Day and World Oceans Day – occasions reinforcing the fact that we all have our roles to play in caring for the earth, some more so than others. As one of the largest global motor vehicle manufacturers in the world, Toyota and Lexus are acutely aware that we’re compelled to tread as lightly on the earth as possible. That’s why we’ve set ourselves environmental goals which we’re working tirelessly to achieve by 2020. That’s also why this issue of Toyota Connect and Life by Lexus is our green issue, celebrating all things eco, environmental and sustainable. Join us as we explore off-grid living, follow the life-cycle of futuristic concept cars as they go into commercial production and embrace fashion that’s as cutting-edge as it’s kind to the communities in which it’s made. Toyota and Lexus have long been at the forefront of innovation, especially when that means doing as little harm to the earth as possible in the design, the manufacture and, ultimately, the driving of Toyota and Lexus cars in the future. We’ve spent decades developing fuel cell technology to address energy concerns, which can be seen in two world firsts: the fuel cell bus, which is going into production, and the Hybrid FFV (p17). We’re also excited to introduce you to the new Toyota Rush, with some pet-friendly adventures (p24) and invite you to get grubby in the Hilux Dakar Special Edition (p30). And for those of you craving a life less loud, we encourage you to ditch the digital devices and head out to some of the remotest places on earth for some welldeserved downtime. We’d love to hear how you and your family have embraced ecofriendly living and travel, and how you’re doing your bit to care for your environment and community.
