DEALER OF THE YEAR
TOYOTA’S DEALER OF THE YEAR (DOTY) AWARD HAS BEEN REWARDING EXCELLENCE FOR 38 YEARS AND IS CONSIDERED AN EXTREMELY PRESTIGIOUS TITLE WITHIN THE SOUTH AFRICAN NETWORK. MEET THE LATEST WINNERS…
Toyota SA employs a business Pyramid of Excellence programme comprising Performance and Efficiency Awards, the Vice-president’s Awards and President’s Awards, which culminate in the DOTY Award.
“Toyota SA has four dealer categories – Mega, Large, Medium and Small – and a winner is selected for each category,” explains Richard Wingfield, Manager: Dealer Communications & Special Projects. “Dealers have to score well in the following weighted programmes in order to be considered as a DOTY candidate: Sales and Automark Development Programmes, the Customer Service Development Programme and the Toyota Financial Services Programme.”
All the programmes cover compliance with franchise standards and measure performance against a variety of sales targets. During a calendar year, scores are accumulated and the dealer scoring the highest aggregate total walks away with the trophy.
TOYOTA DEALER OF THE YEAR: MICHAEL KOBERSTEIN
Michael’s worked for Thekwini Toyota for 20 years, first being hired by Peter Snyman as a trainee when he was just 18 years old. He received training in everything from the driving and licensing of vehicles to stock
control and, six months after joining, was given the opportunity to become a salesperson.
“Customers are king and without them, I wouldn’t have a business,” he says. “They want to be treated with respect, honesty and integrity. If we treat all our customers like that, we’ll have a great business.”
Michael says winning the DOTY was the biggest highlight of his career, as he and his team had worked towards it for two years.

Kevin got his start in the motor industry as a Parts Picker at Monument Toyota Constantia in 2003. He developed a passion for sales and working with cars, so he joined Lexus Fourways as a new car salesman three years later.
He then left Lexus Fourways and joined Halfway Toyota across the road, where he was Parts Manager for 10 years, winning several DOTY

HINO DEALER OF THE YEAR: GANSEN CHETTY
Gansen, who joined Hino Shelly Beach as Dealer Principal in March 2014, has a history with Hino trucks going back to 1997, when he was employed by Hino Pinetown as a salesman.
“A total focus on people, be they customers or my team members, is the reason for our ongoing success, which culminated in being awarded this title,” he says. “We’ve started 2018 on a positive note, being over target in all aspects of our business and are determined to retain the Hino of the Year award for a second year,” says Gansen.
