True Love

Artist to watch: LANGA MAVUSO

-

I discovered and explored my own voice when I went to the National School of the Arts and studied music. I went to Rhodes to study politics but realised it wasn’t me so I went to study jazz at the University of Cape Town. I didn’t finish because I had some mental health issues.

I returned to Joburg and started taking my music seriously in 2016 when I moved back home and started recording my EP. I did one song in Cape Town at the Red Bull studios and a friend recorded my session. I posted it online. The next day I discovered the video had trended and I had many direct messages of encouragement and validation on Twitter. One of them was Black Coffee, who asked me to do a song with him for his upcoming album and we recorded two days later.

I signed to Soulistic Music Records after I had sent Black Coffee the song and asked for his advice. He loved it. A few days later his people called me and offered me a deal. I felt Soulistic was perfect because it was a smaller label, to give me the attention I need. I signed in July 2017.

This year I’m definitely releasing my album, probably in winter but I want to create a timeless piece of work.
