Kiss dark spots and uneven skin goodbye, and say hello to clearer, even and smooth skin

- By TSAKANE NDLOVU

What is uneven skin tone?

The harsh African sun forces our skin to produce excess melanin (specifically eumelanin in brown or black hues) to protect it against UV rays. An irregular darkening of the skin is the after-effect. These dark areas are also known as hyperpigmentation, age or liver spots, sunburn, or scars after popping your pimples. The result? Uneven skin tone.

How can you treat uneven skin-tone and dark spots?

You’ll need products that will make the discolouration and dark spots fade over time. These products work by shedding off or exfoliating the outer layer of skin, allowing new and lighter skin to show through underneath. Some of these products include alpha hydroxy acids, which are a group of

natural and synthetic ingredients that, when used expertly, exfoliate the uppermost layers of skin.

This process results in fresher, refined skin that appears much smoother, is more hydrated, and, over time, becomes visibly firmer.

How often should a person apply sunscreen?

Sunscreen is actually the most important treatment to prevent our skin from getting damaged by the sun. It is important to note that even when you are applying other products, you have to strictly stick to protecting your skin against the sun.

Exposure to UV rays while using acids to exfoliate or hydroquinone to lighten will result in even more darkened areas across your skin and perhaps scarring, which is the last thing you’d want to happen. In a nutshell, suncreen must be used every single day.
