Ed’s Letter

True Love - - NEWS - Mbali Soga Editor

Survival, for me, means making my salary stretch until month end, surviving a hard day at work or getting my boys through yet another school year. However, putting this issue together made me realise how the concept of survival is different for everyone. Each of the four women featured in our Celebrate Life section (page 55) describes how managing an illness like breast cancer is a daily challenge. Yet, their stories are proof that waking up daily and fighting to stay healthy is a blessing. Their strength is admirable!

This entire issue is jam-packed with tools to ensure that you don’t just survive, but thrive as well. Our food editor Tumelo Sebopa demonstrates that ‘you are what you eat’ with great ideas on how to incorporate fresh ingredients into your daily meals — from vibrant poke bowls to thirst-quenching summer spritzers.

Our relationship feature highlights that marriage shouldn’t be treated as a season of Survivor, to see who will submit or back down first. Marriage should be about receiving love and support from your partner, while you willingly give of yourself. We hope the insights in this month’s Mind Power feature will empower you to say ‘No’ and let go of your ‘I must save everyone’ mentality. Sometimes, it’s okay to put yourself first. After all, #SelfishIsTheNewSelfLove!

On a lighter note, our fashion and beauty team has put together a comprehensive guide of the latest scents to add to your fragrance collection, and all the shoes, bags and accessories you need to up your style stakes.

I challenge you to thrive, and not just survive, for the remainder of 2018!
