True Love

THE BLACKSMITH AND THE DRAGONFLY

- –KM

by Riaan Louw and Charles Siboto, R129

For so long, children’s books targeted at the young black reader often used common names (think: Refilwe, Naledi), so kudos to the authors for using more complex African names. Ndiliswa is the ambitious daughter of a poor blacksmith. An evil spell is cast on the king’s son, Prince Siyabulela, who is turned into a dragonfly, and it’s Ndiliswa who steps in to rescue him.
