True Love

Ed’s Letter

- Mbali Soga Editor

My favourite denim memory: Seven-year-old me, kitted out in denim, going to a year-end “society” outing with my parents and their friends. I was dressed in an indigo blue denim delela, paired with a red turtleneck and matching red ribbons on my hair. My parents, who were the ultimate theme junkies, were wearing matching jean-to-jean ensembles – that was the order of the day back then. Remembering that era, denim was a staple reserved only for weekend outings. To this day, my mother asks, “Are you wearing jeans to work?!” every time I whip out my favourite pair. She has relaxed a bit, though, and now says “Ingcono uma uyigqoka (it’s better when worn) on Fridays.” But still, I feel bad.

In this issue, we’re all about the jean-to-jean revolution! Fashion editor Jessica Ramoshaba has literally filled this edition with must-have denim items to buy now – think oldschool stone-wash (that’s faded denim, to all you millennials), jackets and accessories. And, just for a little more drama, we dressed the women in our Celebrate Life feature in “Friday Jeans Day” looks, perfect when worn from desk to play! The feature profiles four amazing radio content producers behind some of the most-listened to shows in the country, including Metro FM’s Marawa Sports Worldwide to Kaya FM’s Breakfast With David. Radio producers are the brains behind these popular shows. Read more about them on page 42.

We’ve also introduced hot new features, like the His Turn column, written by talented author Lesedi “Lee” Molefi. Do check out our Own Your Worth section too, which is all about empowerment, entrepreneurship and everything else you’ll need to boost your career or side hustle.

If you celebrate Easter, the food spread on page 100 is to die for! From nostalgia-inducing pickled fish and Chelsea buns, to stuffed bread, you’ll be left salivating.

I’m really looking forward to resting a bit during the public holidays. I hope you make the most of them, too.

Enjoy your Easter break!
