SCALP CARE

We often neglect our scalps by focusing too much on the actual hair. However, the state of your scalp is a direct reflection of your hair’s health. The products we use, as well as sweat, can clog up the follicles, which then hampers hair growth. So exfoliating and detoxing the scalp is vital for overall hair health. Use a scalp exfoliator once every three days to detox and purify the surface area. If you have sensitive skin, once a week is ideal.

CLEANSE

Washing your hair, even when it doesn’t look dirty, is essential. The aim is to prevent bad odour, dryness and product buildup. At the same time, you don’t want to disturb the scalp and hair’s natural pH levels. In winter, we turn to protective hairstyles like braids, cornrows or weaves — your natural hair still needs to be washed. Cleanse the hair inbetween the styling so that the scalp and strands are clean, fresh and healthy.

NOURISH AND SEAL

For a boost of nutrients and shine, condition your hair every three to five days with a conditioning cream or oil treatment. Focus the conditioner on the ends of your hair, and avoid applying it directly on the scalp as that will weigh down your strands, and make it appear greasy. Conditioners are highly recommended as they act as a moisture sealant, making sure that all the ingredients cling on the hair for lasting goodness.

STRENGTHEN

Always apply a heat protectant oil or spray after every wash and before using heat on your mane. Spritz the formula while your tresses are still damp — this step will boost the product’s efficacy. Then, let your hair air-dry before gently blow drying it with a comb attachment. This will reduce the amount of pulling and tugging, which can lead to breakage. Try to limit heat styling to two times a month, and use the lowest temperature possible.
