Make Me Over
The TL Glam Squad helped Masentle Tsiu transform from a tomboy to a girly-girl!
Occupation: “I am a business student doing second year at Boston City Campus. I’m also learning graphic and fashion design on the side because I want to start my own clothing brand one day. My hobbies include music and art. I felt that I needed a makeover because my style is tomboyish. I usually wear baggy clothes and I don’t really like wearing skirts and dresses. I believe that this makeover will definitely help me channel my girly side,” Masentle says.
“When Masentle mentioned that she’s not into make-up, I knew exactly what to do. I decided to keep it natural and clean. I first applied a primer to help the products set nicely and went for a light foundation, so that she didn’t feel like she’s wearing anything. She has beautiful eyebrows, so shaping them was easy. I finished her look with a bronzer to highlight her cheekbones,” says make-up artist Vuyo Varoy.
“I noticed that Masentle had shaved her hair on the sides and only had short hair in the middle of her head. I decided to crochet Marley braids because I didn’t want to pull her hair as it is so short. Before I started braiding, I firstly based her scalp with rich and healthy ingredients such as shea butter, castor oil and coconut oil to keep her hair moisturised,” says hairstylist Zola Ngejane. How did you feel after the makeover?
I felt so girly. Oh, gosh! I even wanted to speak English with a twang. I felt so pretty, but also weird because it was my first time having a full make-up experience. What did you enjoy most?
The best part was that I got to be dressed and pampered by a team of amazing experts, and seeing myself with make-up on was a WOW! What did you love about your experience?
My hair and flawless make-up. I loved the second outfit, and trying on different shoes. I don’t usually wear heels, but what girl doesn’t like trying on gorgeous shoes? To sum it all up, the whole experience was out of this world.
