From electric vehicles to hot hatches, as well as supercars and crossovers — we look at some of the sexier offerings heading to our shores this year

BMW M2 Gran Coupe

While some people may find it attractive, I rather opt to reserve judgement until I see it in the metal. While it doesn’t look like the best design on paper, what gets it on this list is what’s under the hood. The BMW M2 Gran Coupe is, of course, a solid member of the M Badge society and because most of its styling cues are borrowed from the 1-Series, I judge it to be a sexy surprise after all.

Mazda CX-30

With its sleek, pulled-back headlights, the Mazda CX-30 just topple over to the sexy side in a very practical and mature way. What makes it different from the CX-3 is its chunkier looks gained from the extra plastic cladding on the sides and added tech and safety features. It’s quite a looker!

Peugeot 3008

I was completely gobsmacked at the sheer attractive design of the Peugeot 3008. It has beautifully shaped headlights and a welcoming face. The best feature on this car is the interior layout. Wow! It has high-quality material, a slick digital instrument cluster, as well as a neat array of metal toggles like the ones you’d find at the hands of a pilot. It comes with the introduction of an electric powertrain.

Audi Q3 Sportback

At a glance, the Q3 Sportback looks like a compact Q8, while its sloping roofline affords it a coupe-esque feel that gives the rear much of the drama. It has loads of sex appeal and looks meaner and more aggressive than the standard Q3. The car, expected to hit our shores between March and April, has the perfect balance of sleek sophistication and bold design.

VW Golf 8

Golf is so popular in SA that we consider it a ‘national treasure’. I should be yawning at its cult-like popularity, but truth is, it really is worth all that hype. This is one of the best hatches money can buy, offering a premium feel at a reasonable price. The new Golf 8 will be launching with even more tech than its predecessor and promises to retain its title of “King of the hatches”.

Mini Cooper JCW

Haven’t we all wanted to own a Mini Cooper at some point? The dream is still alive here. Mini is bringing in their fastest Cooper yet with a powerful 225 kW and 45 Nm that’s good for a 0-100 km sprint in 5.2 seconds. It’s all about the looks and selfishly holding on to the playful and more youthful side of you. If you’re an adrenalin junkie, this will probably be one of the most exciting pocket rockets to zig-zag in on the highway.
