SELF-CARE ACTIVITIES YOU CAN ENGAGE IN

Fundi recommends that you do the following to show yourself self-love and care:

MIND

Change your behaviour. This allows you to be self-aware. Follow your heart if you normally use your mind when making decisions, or vice versa. That can include changing your normal routine or being present in instances where you are normally on autopilot – for example, reading a magazine while in the bathroom instead of browsing your phone.

Take time out for self-care. Unplug for an hour. Switch all your electronic gadgets to airplane mode and free yourself from your normal activities. Take a nap, drink tea or listen to birds in your garden.

Create a deliberate self-love habit. Make a routine of something small in your life — like taking time to choose what you wear on Wednesdays, or doing a deep skin cleansing treatment.

BODY

Give your body 10 minutes of mindful attention. Use the body scan technique to check in with each part of your body. One of the most important activities that is undermined is sitting and doing nothing. This is, however, a necessary part of self-care as it allows your whole being to connect and recharge.

Get down and boogie. Play your favourite song and dance to it.

Have a spa day at home. Take a long bath, sit around in your bathrobe, and read magazines. Splurge a little. Spoil yourself a little by buying yourself scented candles and oils.

Eat, love and pray. Also focus on eating healthy food, exercising and getting enough sleep. Enjoy the little moments. Read books, spend time gardening or watch the sun set.

SOUL

Check your emotions. Sit quietly and name what you’re feeling without any judgement.

Ask for help. Whether you’re going through something big or small, learn to reach out. Write down your thoughts. Write down anything bothering you, then let it go as you burn the paper.

Choose who you spend your time with. Surround yourself with people you love.
