Six feet under

E.tv’s first telenovela ashes to ashes is all about secret, lies… and death.

the actor: new talent’s been unearthed in dancer and theatre actor nyaniso. having shared the stage with the likes of nthati moshesh (mo on scandal!), he’s no stranger to acting alongside greatness as he takes on his first tv role. the character: his good looks and charm work wonders for eldest son tsietsi. being groomed as the heir to selo’s empire, the 28-year-old loves the finer things in life and his charismatic yet serious nature make him a pleasant paradox. weakness: he hides a potentially disturbing side to his personality.

funeral home is the last place you’d expect to find drama. after all, it’s where the dead come to get away from it all and finally prepare to rest for eternity. but not at namane funerals. meet selogilwe namane and his family: his lovely wife mandlakazi and two sons tsietsi and monwabisi. but the family’s lives are about to be shaken up when mandlakazi’s long-lost niece reba does some inappropriate poking around, in turn unearthing dark family secrets. that explains these coffins lying around their funeral parlour office – the secrets have to be stored somewhere, right?

reba (zenande mfenyana)

the actress: most will recognise her as generations’ devious daughter noluntu, but she was in the spotlight way before 2011 when she got that role. the former childstar appeared in ads in the ’90s before blossoming into an accomplished actress. the character: the namanes’ neatly structured web of lies, deceit and buried secrets come undone as mandlakazi’s niece starts snooping through their business. but will reba’s independent and nosey ways land her in trouble with the clearly shaken namane clan? weakness: she’s intuitive and often says what’s on her mind long before thinking things through, which lands her and her family in trouble.
