ENGAGED BUT BROKE!

Sechaba’s romantic proposal to spoilt Lerato is going to cost him…

-

After years of topsy-turvy, whirlwind, on-off romance, Sechaba (Motlatsi Mafatshe) has plucked up the courage to get down on one knee and propose to his girlfriend Lerato (Tema Sebopedi). But diva Lerato has hinted a few times that she wants her proposal to be memorable and unique, with a big, expensive diamond ring for her to show off. That means Sechaba has his work cut out for him…

COLD FEET?

On Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December, Sechaba and Lerato have a petty argument about their holiday plans. Their bickering ruins the day and an irritated Lerato storms out the house, still convinced the next day, on Friday 25 December, that Sechaba’s up to no good. “Sechaba isn’t being himself,” Tema explains. “He seems stressed and Lerato has a few guesses, thinking that it’s work related or worse… an affair.” It seems that all the stress of trying to get things perfect for the surprise proposal is taking its toll.

DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL’S BEST FRIENDS

Dapper Sechaba is dressed to impress on Monday 28 December, strumming his guitar as he serenades Lerato in public with a romantic song that he wrote for her. After the music, he gets down on bended knee and presents her with a beautiful big diamond ring. Says Tema, “Lerato was expecting a proposal in a holiday destination and a lot of build up to the actual proposal but she’s satisfied with his public display of affection.” And when Lerato sees the ring, her eyes glow because that’s what she’s always wanted. “She’s overjoyed about her ring – more than Sechaba’s actual serenade. It’s like Lerato has got her happy ending,” Tema adds. While Lerato shows off her ring, she notices that Sechaba’s still stressed out about something and is convinced that he’s keeping a secret from her. “Lerato’s aware of their relationship changing and there are going to be challenges,” say Tema, “but something else is clearly on in his mind.”

GOODBYE SPARKLE

And it’s money. On New Year’s Eve, Thursday 31 December, Lerato learns what’s really troubling Sechaba. “Let’s just say that this diamond has a very short lifespan on Lerato’s finger,” Tema reveals. Sechaba spent a small fortune on getting her the perfect plus-sized engagement ring and now he’s in debt up to his eyeballs, which makes Lerato feel guilty. To save them from financial ruin, she considers giving the ring back on Monday 4 January. “Their financial worries don’t end there,” Tema previews. “There’s still a wedding to plan and, of course, a dress to buy.”
