Left in the lurch

Felicity’s back in Hillside for Christmas, but will she and her stepson Willem reconcile?

-

After her husband Herman (Deon Coetzee) and stepson Louis (Leslie van Wyk) died in a car crash on Friday 23 October, an emotionally crushed Felicity (Melanie du Bois) skipped Hillside for some TLC from her mom in Mossel Bay on Thursday 5 November. “She needed time to mourn and clear her head,” Melanie explains. Especially after she’d jumped into bed with Herman’s other stepson Willem (Markus Haywood). On Tuesday 22 December, Felicity returns but she walks into a house in shambles – it looks like Willem’s lost his mind while she was away. Desperate to make things up to him, she suggests on Wednesday 23 December that they spend Christmas together. But it’s not going to be a time of festive cheer for the pair…

YOU DESERTED ME!

Markus says that Willem feels snubbed. “He was rejected his entire life. Firstly by his biological father, who abandoned his family, and then by one of his mom Elana’s (Joanie Combrink) friends whom he dated in the Cape before he came to Hillside in April.” Herman and Louis’s deaths were unexpected and the only woman he felt he could share his pain with is Felicity, but she left him too. On Wednesday 23 December, Felicity confronts Willem about the urn with Herman’s ashes lying shattered on the ground. Showing no remorse, he says that it happened during a wild house party. “He’s angry and makes it clear that she hurt him because he was alone,” Markus says. Melanie adds that Felicity feels guilty. “She understands and regrets what she put him through. She was selfish to flee but had to get away or she’d have lost her mind.” With both having vented, they make up that night, only for Diederik (Hennie Jacobs) to derail the peace.

STAY OR GO

On Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December, Diedie runs into Felicity, who tells him that she’s returning to Mossel Bay after Christmas. Later that day, while having a drink with Willem, Diederik casually mentions Felicity’s plans, causing Willem to flip out again. “He’s still smitten with Felicity and when they made up the previous day, he’d hoped that they’d get back together, but he’s realising that it will never happen.”

It’s Christmas Day on Friday 25 December and while Felicity’s looking forward to a day with Willem, he gives her the cold shoulder. “He cuts her out his life completely,” Markus says. He tells her that he knows about her plans and that he’d rather not have anything to do with her. Melanie says that Felicity’s now the one who feels excluded. “Willem ignores her for the rest of the day and she decides to pack her bags, only to return on Tuesday 19 January.
