Marothi attacked by Ma’Kunutu!

Rachel finally ends things with Marothi, but it takes a rude awakening for him to accept that it’s over.

-

On Wednesday 6 January, a day after her mom’s return from visiting outof-town family, Rachel (Lesego Marakalla) shocks Ma’Kunutu (Shoki Sebotsane) with news that has the expectant mother ready to pop: Rachel saw her mom’s babydaddy Alfred (Putla Sehlapelo) with another woman in December 2015. Ma’Kunutu refuses to believe her, pushing Rachel to cry on the shoulder of her sugardaddy Marothi (Macks Papo), but things quickly turn ugly when the teenager finally ends it with her much-older beau.

THE BREAK-UP

After Ma’Kunutu dismisses her claims about Alfred, Rachel announces that she’s running away on Thursday 7 January. To her surprise, her mom leaves the door wide open but then Marothi calls and, in an out- of- character moment for the schemer, he wants to play hero when Rachel sobs about her situation. “He genuinely cares about her and wants to help,” says Macks. But Rachel is tired of being saved and refuses his offer to pick her up, ending the relationship instead. “He has mixed feelings but it’s mostly just good riddance for him,” says Macks. But that isn’t the Marothi we know, is it?

BLOOD IS THICKER THAN OIL

It appears that Marothi isn’t as happy to be rid of Rachel as he pretends to be when he goes to her house on Friday 8 January to taunt her. “Marothi wants to make a statement and justify their relationship,” says Macks. “Rachel can’t just choose that his money is good and his presence isn’t.” The crafty Marothi ignores Ma’Kunutu’s warnings to get out of her home and pushes her too far on Friday 8 January – she grabs a pan with hot oil and throws it in his face, sending Marothi into a screaming, yelping heap on the floor.

A SUGARDADDY SCORNED On Monday 11 January, Marothi stands up with an unburnt face. “This is when he realises the oil wasn’t hot and he’s relieved and shocked all at once,” says Macks. “He thinks that the Kunutus are crazy, but he knows he’ll never mess with them again.” As Marothi swears never to set foot in their house again, he leaves with the hope that one day Rachel will return to him and regret her decision. “He’s giving her space and time,” he says. “He has already made a mark in her life she won’t soon forget.”
